A Stylish Yet Functional Pied-à-Terre on the Upper East Side | Open House TV

A Stylish Yet Functional Pied-à-Terre on the Upper East Side | Open House TV

Sarah Abdallah, founder and CEO of Functional Creative Design, invites us for a look around her latest impressive project: a refurbished pied-à-terre on the Upper East Side that she designed for a client seeking a luxurious retreat to escape to. (The home is situated inside a 120-year-old landmark limestone building by Carrère & Hastings—the architectural firm best known for The Frick Collection and The NY Public Library buildings.) Tasked with creating a space that felt like “the dreamiest suite at a boutique hotel,” Abdallah focused on durable materials and soft textures, including: a serene gray wall covering from Phillip Jeffries’ commercial line that mimics silk, unique furnishings from DDC, along with a pair of Hans Wegner Elbow chairs adorning a Saarinen Tulip table; and handcrafted Liaigre pieces: Grume bench, Longitude desk and Chantecaille table lamp, plus an Aspre lounge chair and a Cravache armchair covered in Holly Hunt linen and leather. All these touches allow for easy entertaining and inspire a sense of tranquility, ambiance, and balance.

Functional Meets Playful in Melanie Morris’s NYC Pied-à-Terre in Nolita | Open House TV

Functional Meets Playful in Melanie Morris's NYC Pied-à-Terre in Nolita | Open House TV

Welcome to interior designer Melanie Morris’s pied-à-terre in Nolita, which she shares with her husband and three teenage sons. This open-concept, functional home features earthy tones, furniture from the Kenmare collection (including an oatmeal-hued sofa, a dark stone coffee table, and a credenza with ambrosia maple tones and dark fluted wood that was designed specifically for the apartment), and a playful sense of design as best captured by the ceramic overhead light fixture in the dining room and the calming pop of color in the master suite (which includes ombre-glazed walls, a vintage light fixture from the 1960s, views of the World Trade Center, and soft, curved pieces with brass accents). Every space not only feels unique through unexpected touches & careful delineation (as evidenced by the rug from her Pop Collection that separates the living room into its own entity), but also allows its residents to remain connected to each other throughout the day.

A Delightful Pied-à-Terre on the Upper East Side Inspired by A Trip to Italy | Open House TV

Welcome to a delightful pied-à-terre on the Upper East Side designed by interior designer Tina Ramchandani. Her clients were so inspired by a trip to Italy that they asked her to create a space that captured the essence of “la dolce vita”; and she definitely brought their beautiful vision to life with her relaxing yet luxurious aesthetic. From the welcoming foyer that features custom wallpaper that carries throughout the space, commissioned artwork that give the walls an extra pop, and a mobile light fixture that can be pointed in any direction, to the living room that includes a dynamic seating element to mimic a salon-style floor plan, curved furniture, multiple tables, and a rotating picture gallery crafted from mixed materials, this Manhattan getaway is teeming with unique artisan decor.

5 Unconventional NYC Homes: Sculptural Staircases, Abstract Glass Tiles & Disco Balls | Open House

5 Unconventional NYC Homes: Sculptural Staircases, Abstract Glass Tiles & Disco Balls | Open House

Get ready to explore five stunning New York City homes with our host Sara Gore!

First, join us in midtown Manhattan with interior designer Rodney Lawrence as he adds an interplay of interesting textures, colors, and materials to transform all 4000 sq ft of this alluring 29th floor Park Avenue loft into a one-of-a-kind living space. Next up, we venture to West Chelsea, where interior designer Harry Heissmann introduces us to his unique take on a project that not only preserves numerous industrial features (such as exposed brick), but also reinvents many common aspects of a home (including placing a bed and disco ball fixture in the living room) and highlights his client’s personality with its humor-meets-drama tone. Soon after, interior designer Libby Langdon takes us through a glass-box pied-à-terre, located in Nomad, that was redesigned to reflect the smart, chic, and dynamic nature of New York City, as well as to maximize style and ease of movement in a small space. (Oh, and be sure to take in that gorgeous view of the Chrysler Building!) We’ll follow this up with a trip to an art-filled, ultra-modern townhouse that was built in the 1880s and is located in St. Luke’s Place in the West Village. Architect Greg Sharp takes us through every single detail of this magnificent beauty, including the spacious kitchen with two islands, the dramatic height windows at the rear of the home that fill it with natural light; the sculptural grand staircase, which creates a visual experience and serves as the main unifying element of the house; as well as the restoration of original details (such as the classic facade) that add layers to its wonder. Finally, we head over to Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn where architect and interior designer Hormuz Batliboi takes us on a tour of his gut renovation of an over 100-year-old abandoned Brooklyn brownstone. This project gave Hormuz the opportunity to not only create a beautiful home for his family but also implement his distinct design language and modern sensibility, as well as inspire a fascinating dialogue between contemporary and historic.
