In this full episode of NBC’s Open House: host Sara Gore leads us through four extraordinary spaces — including a trip to your own private paradise, a beautifully designed New Jersey home, a dreamy NYC loft, and a complete tour of Southern Living’s dazzling 2024 Idea House!
We kick things off with globetrotting architectural designers (and friends) Tony Ingrao and Randy Kemper for a tour of their personal retreat. This tranquil secluded estate — a labor of love by the dynamic design duo — has been dubbed the Solenborg Estate and is located on a mountain within a national park on the island of St. John in the US Virgin Islands. Not only does the sumptuous villa offer the ideal Caribbean escape with its numerous amenities (including 7 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, al fresco showers, a private gym, a billiards room, two heated pools, ample skylights, and more — all set against a staggering island backdrop), but it also serves as a testament to how bold & innovative design can seamlessly harmonize with nature. As for the best part? The breathtaking views!
Next up: “A well-designed home should have great energy.” This is the mantra that Blanche Garcia abides by when designing homes for her clients. The talented interior designer invites us inside a luxurious townhouse located in Weehawken, NJ that overlooks the Hudson River to show viewers firsthand. While from the outside this home might seem unassuming, the next-level interior — designed for two professionals with a high sense of style — is a sight to behold. See how Blanche combined modern features with bespoke elements (including statues of elephants near the doorway to invite peace, prosperity, and protection, as is custom in Indian culture) to produce a relaxing setting that is both functional and refined.
We then we journey to Charleston to join interior designer Allison Elebash and Southern Living senior home editor Betsy Cribb Watson for a lovely tour of the 2024 Southern Living Idea House: a true labor of love and celebration of nature, innovative design, and Lowcountry charm all rolled into one stunning project. Each year, Southern Living magazine builds a house from the ground up to showcase the latest trends in interior design; and this year’s riverfront project, located in South Carolina, will surely take your breath away. Inspired by the quiet farmsteads and the lush natural beauty of Johns Island (a rural coastal community near Charleston) and nestled among majestic moss-covered oaks in the scenic Kiawah community, this newly constructed home took one year to complete and exudes plenty of warmth, elegance, and cozy Charleston style. And if any of the curated pieces from the tour caught your eye, shop the look HERE: https://shorturl.at/WtZ8S — and be sure to grab your copy of Southern Living’s September 2024 issue (which hits newsstands on August 23rd) for more how-to ideas, organizing tips, and fall decor inspiration!
Last but certainly not least, we drop by a stylish New York City loft. Situated right next to Union Square, bar owner and restaurateur Maneesh Goyal’s loft offers an opportune setting for entertaining. The cozy yet cosmopolitan aesthetic of this modern urban home is beautifully accentuated by the large amount of natural light that streams through, as well as personalized details throughout. Not only that, but Maneesh and his husband Andrew have commissioned a hidden mural to represent their family that is the ideal finishing touch to their stylish space.
