Each year, Southern Living magazine builds a house from the ground up to showcase the latest trends in interior design; and this year’s riverfront project, located in South Carolina, will surely take your breath away. Inspired by the quiet farmsteads and the lush natural beauty of Johns Island (a rural coastal community near Charleston) and nestled among majestic moss-covered oaks in the scenic Kiawah community, this newly constructed home took one year to complete and exudes plenty of warmth, elegance, and cozy Charleston style. From its earthy color palette to the tree-lined mural in the entry hall to its mindful incorporation of local art and textiles (including handcrafted sweetgrass baskets) throughout the space, this welcoming abode pays homage to its breathtaking surroundings and tells a unique story of artistry, community, and easygoing indoor-outdoor living.
