A Timeless Gilded Age Mansion in Park Slope, Brooklyn | Open House TV

Welcome to the epitome of opulence and grandeur in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Jason Saft, a professional stager, takes #OpenHouseTV on a tour of 18 Prospect Park West: a five-story Gilded Age mansion that’s conveniently located right across from Prospect Park and boasts over 9,000 square feet of exquisite architectural details, historic millwork, and old-world charm — including a limestone facade, stately wrought iron gate, and a Parisian-style canopy fashioned out of bronze and glass.

So what inspired the design of each room in this gorgeous townhouse? Saft says the home’s extraordinary character and original ornate touches — including beautiful ceiling moulding throughout — provided him with room to get creative while honoring the integrity of the space through curved bouclé sofas that mimic the pattern in the ceiling and a verdant rug that plays off the residence’s proximity to the park and the onyx in the fireplace.

Other points of visual interest include the middle parlor that features stunning woodwork (such as carved lions) and sculpted furniture, and serves as the social heart of the home; a majestic oak staircase with hand-carved posts and a magnificent fireplace with a Thomas O’Brien poem inscribed in the mantle to capture that feeling of warmth in a home; a dining room that is adorned with rare light fixtures that function as works of art, curved chairs, a green rug, and an oversized traditional table that’s ideal for entertaining dinner guests; an elegant library pieces from different time periods — including an Eames chaise and Jean Carlo valet chair — as well as a unique light fixture that features a stunning medallion; and a primary suite that features several zones — a sleeping area with a modern king size bed, a sitting area with a mid-century-inspired sofa, a workstation with sculptural chairs by Sarah Sherman Samuel, and a vast dressing room with stained glass windows and intricate closets — that exudes a serene and relaxing atmosphere.
